DESCRIPTION:Course information:\nThis course is suitable for all those interested in dressmaking, from complete beginners to the more experienced wanting to brush up on their skills.\nLearners will be guided through the purchase of fabrics and patterns. You will learn how to make basic pattern alterations, cut out, assemble, and fit garments. You will also be taught basic dressmaking techniques and make samples to practice your skills.\nThere will be plenty of help with using a sewing machine if required. More advanced learners will be encouraged to make more complicated garments. There are some sewing machines available at the College.  All dressmaking classes include students with various levels of experience.\nAims and Objectives:\n\nThis course will help Learners to learn how to use a sewing machine\nLearn how to use a domestic dressmaking pattern\nUnderstand the importance of a well fitted garment\nLearn how to assemble a garment in the correct order\nLearn a variety of dressmaking skills, such as inserting zips, seam finishes, pockets and hems.\n\nWhat you will need to bring\n\nPencils and pens.\nSewing machine (if over a year-old PAT test required)\nTape measure.\nAn old sheet or quilt cover for samples.\n\nAfter your first lesson, you will need to purchase a pattern, fabric, and thread. She studied at Loughborough College of Art and worked briefly as a fashion designer before moving into teaching textiles. Since leaving the industry, Sally has continued to take on commission work and teach dressmaking and pattern cutting courses.\n
