Upholstery (Thurs, Spring Terms 25)

Course information:

This course is for beginners and for those with some experience.
Beginners will learn the upholstery techniques and skills to upholster a small chair or stool in traditional or modern upholstery.

Intermediates can continue to upholster an existing project or to start a larger project in either modern or traditional upholstery, learning new skills associated with their project.

Aims and Objectives:

• To learn upholstery techniques and skills to make a small project
• To continue to use upholstery skills and learn how to make larger projects

What you will need to bring

• Learners will need to contact the tutor to discuss the project chosen to confirm it is appropriate for the course
• Furniture and fabric/ materials
• Basic items you will need include wooden hammer, tack lifter, fabric cutting scissors which are sharp, a blanket to work on to protect furniture and table, staple remover, stapler (good one – i.e., R13), soft tape measure, pen and pad, camera (optional).

Progression:

• Use skills learnt to make a hobby into a business
• Use skills learnt to progress onto an accredited qualification

Lisa is a trained City and Guilds Upholster and has been running her own business for 14 years. She has been teaching upholstery for the last 6 year for day and evening classes. Lisa first recognised the need to train upholstery as most her business comes from local customers who, have either, inherited a piece that they want upholstered in a traditional way, or have more modern pieces that need an uplift.
